Because it’s funny

I made it outside today to see my pony it’s the first time I’ve been out to see him since I fell off. I think he’s been lonely too. The very least he appreciated the treats I brought for him. I love this guy and being with him brings me so much happiness. I waited a lifetime for him to come – and even if I can’t ride and I’m going to enjoy him

He’s looking for treats

Jacob has been watching TV with me and we watched an episode that made us laugh out loud. He had to get up and record his favourite part.

Silly laughter is exactly what happiness is.

That’s gratitude

Today I took a good look at the helmet I was wearing when I fell off my horse earlier this week.

I had been amazed at how thoroughly I had shattered my shoulder yet not damaged any other part of my body – especially my head which had landed inches away from that shoulder.

My helmet has a huge crack in it. I broke it when I fell. If I hadn’t been wearing my helmet, I would have shattered my head.

It’s the same feeling I had years ago when I was in a bad accident and knew I only survived because I had my seatbelt on.

I am alive because I had on my helmet. I’ve always complained about wearing one, but swore to myself I’d do it every time when I got my new horse. And I have – every single time.

What if I hadn’t?

It’s a different kind of happiness than what I usually write about – but it’s happiness in a very pure form. I love this life and I’m grateful for it.

Friends in low places

One of my bestest, oldest girlfriends sent me a message today letting me know that she had an extra Garth Brooks ticket for me.

We saw him together in Calgary almost 30 years ago and I’m so excited that she’s going to be my date for the show again. I think it was the best concert I’ve ever seen and I’m so grateful that we get to go do it again.

That is happiness!!!

Helping hands

Today  people continued to help me out by giving food asking if there was anything they could do and in the case of my kids cleaning the house.

The kids weren’t overly pleased about that part but they did a good job once they got going. I think it’s been good for all of us to have these roles switch up a little bit they appreciate what I do a whole bunch more and I sure appreciate everything they’re doing for me.

I am so grateful for this tribe. Such happiness.

Plant the seeds of love

I am so absolutely humbled by the outpouring of love that I have seen in the last couple of days after I had my fall. I don’t know what I would’ve done without these people around me – my tribe.

You really do need to be part of a community in order to be cared for and care for each other. And I’m so grateful that God put me right in the middle of this one.

We are all continuously planting the seeds of love. I have so much happiness because I have such amazing people in my life.

Taken care of

So my shoulder is broken after my little spill off of my horse yesterday not really the ideal way to spend the rest of  the summer but it is what it is.

I have been humbled and amazed at how well I have been taken care of in the last 24 hours. Kids, cousins, aunts, friends, my mom and my sister – everybody has called and asked what they can do to help out, and I feel truly blessed. I talk a lot about my tribe and this is exactly what I mean. I couldn’t do it without these people. This is happiness.

All in a day’s work

I got to see my boy at his job today. This work has been such a great thing for him / he’s learning responsibility, but also has gained a whole new social network, and has developed a new confidence which has been awesome to watch evolve.

I’m so proud of both my kids. They are such kind, caring, awesome human beings. They are the brightest stars in my sky – and seeing them happy makes me happy.

Check it yourself

When I was a kid learning about horses it was always drilled into me that no matter if someone had tacked up my horse it was always my responsibility to make sure that everything was safe and in working order before I got on. It’s a lesson that has carried me through the rest of my life as well – no matter what anyone else says, or how they try to help me, at the end of the day I’m responsible for making sure things are done properly and safely for my own life.

I was tacking up Dristhi today with my western saddle. I had it all done, him bridled up, and I was just reaching for my hard hat when he spooked at a barrel that has been in the corral for weeks (but suddenly was scary) and lost his mind. As he was freaking out the strap on the saddle broke, cinch came apart, and the saddle went flying across the corral. This of course didn’t spook him at all, that is only reserved for barrels that don’t move.

All I could think was holy crap -what if that had happened when I was ON him?. I have checked that saddle on a regular basis, but I wouldn’t have checked it today. Thank goodness my guardian angel was on duty and ditched the saddle before I got on.

I switched to my English saddle – which I think he actually likes better – and off we went for what was one of the best rides we’ve had. He’s such a good guy.

It’s an odd little happiness moment, but I’m so happy that my accident happened in the safety of the corral and before I was on. It served as a good reminder to pay attention to everything I’m doing. And I was super grateful later on when my cousin did a temporary fix on my saddle and told me what I need to do to get a new strap put on.

Hard to believe that a few weeks ago this guy was being such an ass I couldn’t even work with him. Look at that cute little face.

The House

Today I got some things done around our house – still clearing clutter here. Then I went to the house of my cousin-in-law for lunch. We share the same insane sense of humour so it’s always a guaranteed laugh fest. We also always break it down into really serious “what’s going on with life” stuff – then back to crazy laughing. This is a valued friendship.

The day ended by seeing The House with my boy. It was hilarious and we laughed ourselves silly. There were only 3 other people in the theatre which made it almost ideal.

Happiness in many forms today. Life is good and I am grateful.
