Stolen moments

I ended up having some unexpected one on one time with my girl today and we went out for a hot chocolate and the biggest cinnamon bun in the world. Life gets busy and it’s important to take these small moments and enjoy them.

Both of us ended up needing our energy rebalanced today. I spent some time with the amazing Asrael who always helps me get myself grounded and find my strength. The girl found hers in a different way, but we both were a little tired and needing some TLC time. I’m so grateful we were able to take that time together and just be.

She hooked into the free internet and watched Netflix and I read my book. And our time together was a happiness moment.

The key to a good life is not giving a fuck about more; it’s giving a fuck about less, giving a fuck about only what is true and immediate and important.

Best line of the day

I was waiting at the cast clinic beside a lady when she suddenly noticed her son was being wheeled to a different area. She jumped up and chased the nurse down to ask where he was going.

She came back to get her things and shook her head and muttered I didn’t give birth to him just to lose  him now.

And I replied I know and it’s a lot of work to make another one.

And we looked at each other and shook our heads and at the same times said and God, I never want to do that again.

I love random funny moments and this was a good one.

As a bonus I got to see my shoulder and I’m all healed and although it’s not anywhere close to where it needs to be, I have more mobility in my arm. Slowly but surely I’m mending and I’ll be as good as new soon. And that’s happiness

Hell’s Kitchen

The weather was absolutely beautiful today and I managed to get out for a walk and soak in some sunbeams. On my way home I noticed my horse had made a steer friend and they each stand on their side of the fence grazing side by side. It’s cute. The evening was spent watching Hell’s Kitchen with the girl.

What does this mean? That even though I have days like yesterday where I feel like the entire universe is dumping on me, really life is pretty darn good. And it’s good because of all the simple things – pony faces, sunbeams, girl cuddles – that is what happiness is about.

Pirate and ladybug

I had an awesome memory pop up on Facebook today – it was from 10 years ago when the kids were 2 and 6 and we had just moved to Rhode Island

I remember the girl was so excited because we had found a brilliant ladybug costume and she was looking forward to going out to get candy for the first time.

I got her dressed in her costume in our bathroom and then stood her on the counter so she could get a good look at how cute she was.

Suddenly she pitched her body off the counter and yelled weeeeeeeeeee. Fortunately I was able to move quickly and grabbed her midair. When I asked her what on earth she was doing she replied well, I’m a ladybug so I can fly.

This was such an innocent time. It was also a pretty happy time that brought back some good memories. Happiness memories.

When I grow up I want to be like my aunt

I was driving the girl home tonight and she was talking about our moves and the friends she’s left behind and the how difficult it is to make new friends – to build that friend tribe.

Then she said when I grow up I want to be like Aunty Carolyn. She’s funny, but she also just does whatever she wants and doesn’t give a crap what anyone else thinks about it. I want to be just like that. Just funny, happy, and who cares what people think of me.

Both kids have informed me that if something should ever happen to me and they’re in need of new parents that they are going to Aunty Carolyn’s place to live.

This is why it is so fantastic that we are back home among our tribe. They have all of these adults who love them and show them different ways to be.

And honestly, if I ever have to grow up I wouldn’t mind being like Aunty Carolyn either (because she’s one of the fun ones who never left her childhood behind her).

So, today – God bless Aunty Carolyn – she’s happiness.

Mommy that boy made me better

We are sitting at the children’s hospital waiting for the doctor to have a look at my daughter. We were at our family doctor and based on the symptoms she was worried about appendicitis- so here we are… waiting.

A little boy about 4 has been happily playing next to us when suddenly he got a big bloody nose and his dad rushed him to the bathroom.

My son grabbed my lavender oil in my dōTERRA keychain and ran after them. He showed them how to put the oil over the bridge of the nose and sure enough – the nosebleed went away.

A few minutes later the boy came running out to his mom yelling mommy, mommy that boy there… he came and gave me some drops of some good smelling stuff on my nose. And it made me all better!! My nosebleed is all gone!!!

And now he’s dancing around again happy as can be.

I am so happy that I had the knowledge and the oil to share with him. The parents were really impressed and grateful and the boy thinks my boy is magical!! Happiness.

The story of your life

I often feel unsettled when I think of the story of my life. It certainly didn’t go as I had dreamed and sometimes I question what I could have done differently to make things better.

We made it (late) to church today – just in time for the sermon. One of the things the pastor said was you can trust God to write the story of your life

And that’s it. Faith and trust. That’s what I need to fall back on. Knowing that is happiness.
